Funerals

Bereavement is one of the hardest experiences we face in our lives.  The death of someone dear to us is the greatest loss we will encounter.  We are here to help and support you, both at the time of bereavement and in the months and years to come.

A key part of the bereavement process is the ability to say "goodbye", and a funeral can be a source of healing for family and friends.  If you are the one to organise a funeral, know that the Church of Scotland offers a Christian funeral to anyone and everyone who wishes it.  If you live in the parish, you can either contact us directly or ask your Funeral Director to contact us.  Funerals are usually conducted by a minister, who will work with you to ensure your loved one's funeral reflects their life, their wishes and your requirements.

We conduct funerals in crematoria, at gravesides and in our church buildings, depending on your wishes.  There is no financial cost for the conduct of the service itself.  If part of the funeral is held in either of our church buildings, there will be some financial costs, processed through the Funeral Director.  For the purposes of clarity, these are listed below.  If, however, you are struggling financially, please be in touch with us as we can support you and make decisions of discretion.

If you are unable to attend a funeral, for whatever reason, you may wish to mark their funeral at home, either at the same time as the funeral or at another time.  To help you do this, we have pulled together some ideas and prayers; please feel free to use as you wish and share with others.
